We are youth volunteers developing the new Bryan Park in Downsville, LA and working under AmeriCorps and WIA to preserve a lush, natural woodland for people to enjoy for many, many years to come. We are passionate about educating others about "green" and healthy living, as well as environmental stewardship. We wield machetes to clear brush for hiking trails, sometimes from dawn till dusk. For fun we pick wild strawberries, blackberries and huckleberries around the park to bake delicious berry cobblers! Seeing a child's face light up when she spots a fawn crouched behind a log keeps us motivated and fills us with hope. We are adamant about preserving the forest's wonders for people to enjoy. The beauty of mother earth, in all her natural splendor, far exceeds any synthetic or virtual reality on a television or computer screen.
